So many designers today take inspiration from vintage fashion. You could see lots of “vintage” handbags that carry brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci or Coach and they are mass-produced.

Take for instance, this Marc Jacobs vintage-inspired piece.

It’s rich two-tone leather, plus the actual structure of the bag perfectly encapsulates what vintage handbags are about. This handbag was released as part of Marc Jacob’s Crosby Collection.

But a truly vintage handbag doesn’t come from a famous name-brand and is about 50 years old, never manufactured or made presently. And a few people only have such handbags, and it’s never mass-produced. So it’s somewhat rare and unique, as well as made of high quality leather, in spite of its age. It has that kind of leather that smells really musky, it’s love!

Some vintage handbags are so intricately designed, they look really, really fashionable. Here’s another example of a vintage inspired design released by Fossil, which combines leather and calf hair, it looks really gorgeous.

Bag Trend Alert: Going Vintage

Gucci’s Snaffle Bit Flap Handbag

This year, the brand has updated the Sukey, giving it a deeper chocolate brown color and a slightly vintage and boxier form:

The Sukey is a best-seller for the brand. And with every purchase of this, 25% of the cost goes to Gucci’s funds for its UNICEF outreach programs.

The brand has been committed to helping the organization since seven years ago. And the money they bring in helps UNICEF builds schools in Africa, where many children affected with HIV get their education.

The Sukey handbag comes with the trademark 1935 Diamante motif and for this style, the motif is embossed in the material. It also comes with hardware that features the brand’s insignia.

The handbag will be available for sale beginning June of 2011, until February next year. And then a new design should be out again following this.

Gucci Updates Their Sukey Tote For Unicef

In fact, here’s an old photo of hers while pregnant and carrying an LV.

The actress is said to have closed a $10Million contract with the bag brand and would soon be gracing magazine pages for the Louis Vuitton summer print ads. Annie Liebowitz is said to be hired to shoot the campaign.

Incidentally, a report from Millward Brown Optimor released this week reaffirms the position of Louis Vuitton as one of the Ten Most Powerful Luxury Brands. It retains its number spot, as the brand also was regarded as Top 1 last year.

Millions of counterfeit bags proliferate the market and it’s a situation that manufacturers of designer bags do not seem to have real control. The internet is especially full of counterfeit bags and Louis Vuitton, Coach, Gucci, Hermes and Burberry are just five of the most copied designer bag labels.

Many of these counterfeit items not only copy the design of the bag. They also make use of the designer’s logo illegally, meaning, they make their own styles and designs and then put the designer’s logo on it.

Majority of these branded bags are only available in limited quantities, not in loads of pieces that many fake sellers carry at one time. Original bags are sold at their very own designer stores. They are also made available in authorized major retail stores, but again, still in limited quantities. This is one way manufacturers and designers control their products.  Like most limited items, they are a lot more valuable when sold and produced this way.

This is one way to check if the bag sold is fake or not. When you see many kinds of it at the store, and the store is not a major authorized retailer, then you can surely bet on the bag being a fake.

However, if you see one and only item being auctioned off at E-bay, for instance…then there’s a chance it may be an original bag that someone (who is most likely not a retailer but only trying to unload stuff) is trying to sell. Make the pertinent inquiries before you confirm your purchase of this bag.

Is this bag a fake or is it original?

Most people would usually go with an iconic handbag like this gorgeous Hermes Birkin below. Others would probably also go with the tried and tested classic styles of Gucci Boston bag or Chanel’s 2.55.

It is a matter of preference of course. And if I were to be rewarded with this, I’d choose a bag that would definitely be something matching my likes and personality. My bag wishlist is actually quite affordable, I mean in terms of branded bags. These aren’t luxury handbags that come with the calibre and price tag of a Hermes or a Louis Vuitton. I especially love this because of the print.

Gucci Hysteria Hobo Bag

When it comes to the design parameters, this Gucci Red Leather Voyager Shoulder Bag has a mediocre design and it seems to deviate from the design value. So now we have an ordinary design bag and what Gucci should have done is using extraordinary materials to make it more interesting. Just applying a signature logo on the bag doesn’t make it more appealing. It’s not red, nor brown, it’s in terracotta red that looks dated and cheap. And the tablecloth-like striped canvas lining, is this a joke? I like the crystal GG version better.

I’m intrigued seeing this elegant and stylish hobo! Gucci Galaxy Large Hobo has a luxe quality with modern design. Now I know why my sister has been talking about owning a Gucci handbag lately. It’s very woman’s dream bag especially the exotic creation like this one. Made of python skin with patent leather trims it will make you feel more feminine. I like the characteristic scales and texture of the python skin. A single braided leather chain strap just adds a touch of luxury. This bag is gorgeous and I would love to see my sister owning one. The major obstacle is python skin sales are illegal in California. So I think she needs to move out of California for this bag.

Gucci’s New Pelham Shoulder Bag

I’ve been looking for a case for my 15″ MBP so far I think I like an LV Computer Sleeve but the price is too steep. Then I finally found this Gucci Computer Case. The Gucci Computer Case is made of a signature GG plus fabric with leather trim. I like the over all look but I’m not sure about the interlocking signature detail. The interlocking logo looks like a medallion that you can find in a sci-fi movie. From its size, this case would fit a 13″ laptop so I think I need to keep on searching.
