In fact, there had been another release of this bag, with its extra flappy sides (yes, those wings are THE main feature!), from Celine, which came out with its envelope tote bag a couple of months back:

Although they differ in a few elements, such as the material (croc leather for the Gonzalez bag), the handles and Celine’s front pockets come with the hardware clasp, you can’t help but do a double take for this handbag and wonder if who copied whom.

Similar designs are not new to this industry. In fact, that’s basically what dictates fashion. Some people are actually saying the design for Celine’s envelope tote is also an inspired copy, or rather, a variation, of another handbag design.

Which one do you prefer between these two?

I have to say I’m partial to the Nancy Gonzalez design, in spite looking like it’s the copycat, because I like its clean and simple construction better. The Celine envelope luggage just seems a bit bulkier for me.

How gorgeous are these bags, huh?

The design has been intentionally over extended, with its flaps on the side. It looks like a batwing, which is actually quite trendy, as you see this in a lot of tops and blouses for women.

The bag is accented with a tassel….lots and lots of tassel and while the shape does seem wacky, the bag can still look traditionally like a luggage shopper, which is quite sophisticated.

The bags are either made of suede/leather or croc leather. I can’t help but gush over its sheer gorgeousness.

Céline Luggage Phantom

Once the UGG looks were cool but now they are kinda outdated. I don’t know what Celine was thinking but if you ask me if this Celine Dimitri Shearling Bag is attractive, the answer would be ‘no’. Though this bag is another version of Celine’s Dimitri line but you can not just forget about that signature shearling sheepskin of UGG that empowers the design. Maybe Celine is trying to bring the “warm & coziness” theme to this fall but with the material, this just doesn’t work. Exotic leathers are hot this autumn/winter but somebody’s gotta retake a fashion 101 class if she doesn’t know the difference between exotic skin and shearing sheep.

Celine Dimitri Shearling Bag

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of Celine’s signature style when it comes to Celine handbags. But I just like Celine and the unpredictability. Take a look at this bag for example, Celine has created this Celine Dimitri Medium Python Hobo that’s breathtaking in its style and materials. Is it overdone? I don’t think so. This bag is beautifully made of grey python with fringing detail at front. I like the classic shape of the hobo bag and love the hairy fringes that give the uniqueness and textures to the bag. Having said that, I don’t love the price tag. I’d rather spend $4,200 for a Cartier.
