The term Man Bag (or Man Purse) was coined in the new millennium, at onset of the metrosexual fad (which is no longer a phase as it has established itself as a lifestyle for trendy men). Suddenly, it’s not just women who go around town carrying big bags in all shapes, designs and sizes. Ever since Prada splashed these man bags on pages of magazines, it has become a hit.
Today, guys carrying bags are as natural as men getting a haircut.
The Hermes Jypsière bag (as pictured) combines the timeless design of a messenger bag and the Birkin. Designer Jean Paul Gaultier describes this as “a functional, nonchalant bag slung across the shoulder, combined with the iconic details of the Hermes bags”.
The bag, which comes this season, is available in different colors, all in sueded crocodile leather.
The 34cm sells for $6,800 at Hermes boutiques, but there are also 37cm versions which I imagine costs a lot more.
